About Us

Meet the digital cartographers and lore archivists behind Return to Vice, the definitive interactive geographic atlas of Grand Theft Auto VI.

Who We Are

Return to Vice (returntovice.com) is an independent cartographic, documentary, and interactive research project created by geospatial analysts, digital mapmakers, and dedicated Grand Theft Auto lore historians. Our platform is not a standard gaming news blog; it is an interactive geographical atlas engineered to systematically chart the topography, districts, waterways, highways, and landmarks of the state of Leonida and the metropolis of Vice City.

We operate as an autonomous, fan-driven initiative. We are not employed by, affiliated with, or financially subsidized by Rockstar Games or Take-Two Interactive. This total structural independence ensures that our terrain reconstructions, landmark verifications, and real-world spatial correlations remain scientifically objective, transparent, and openly documented for the gaming community.

Our Mission and Cartographic Scope

The central mission of Return to Vice is to document, map, and make accessible the most detailed open-world environment ever created in video game history. Our work spans four vital domains:

  1. High-Precision Interactive Atlas: We develop a responsive interactive map interface allowing fans to navigate map sectors, primary highways, the marshlands of Grassrivers, island chains across the Keys, and the urban centers of Vice Beach and Downtown.
  2. Landmark & Building Identification: We systematically document iconic architectural structures, Ocean Drive art deco hotels, correctional institutions, maritime harbors, and airstrips, categorizing each point with its current verification confidence.
  3. Real-World Geographic Parallels: We correlate fictional in-game landmarks with their real-world counterparts across Greater Miami, the Florida Everglades, and the Florida Keys, documenting Rockstar Games’ artistic and architectural adaptations.
  4. Lore & Chronological Archives: We track the historical evolution of Vice City from its 1980s retro setting to the modern era of Leonida, preserving geographic continuity and cultural easter eggs.

When the Atlas Was Created

Return to Vice was founded in late 2023, following the world premiere of the first official Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. Captivated by the monumental visual scale and environmental diversity of Leonida, our team immediately assembled to apply photogrammetry, visual horizon triangulation, and comparative satellite mapping to establish the game’s geographical layout from its earliest public frames.

Cartographic Methodology and Spatial Verification

Spatial accuracy is the bedrock of our digital atlas. The Return to Vice team implements a rigorous verification methodology:

  • Strict Verification Tagging: Every pin and POI on our map is explicitly tagged as Confirmed (verified through official Rockstar Games footage, screenshots, or developer documentation) or Speculated (derived from spatial projection and real-world geographical parallels).
  • Visual Triangulation: Before adding coordinates to our map database, we cross-examine skyline sightlines, sun angle cast shadows, and terrain elevation models to verify geometric consistency.
  • Source Transparency: Each location profile clearly cites its origin, whether drawn from official media beats, financial presentations, or internal spatial analysis, ensuring full traceability for our readers.

Charting the Path to the GTA 6 Launch

Our cartographic mapping is purposefully building toward the most anticipated entertainment debut of our era: Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to officially launch on November 19, 2026, debuting on PlayStation 5 (alongside Xbox Series X|S). Consistent with Rockstar Games’ established release cadence, the title will launch initially on current-generation consoles before expanding to additional platforms like PC in subsequent phases. At Return to Vice, we will continue refining our atlas coordinates, satellite imagery, and sector guides so you can navigate Leonida with complete confidence on day one.
