An urban district bordering the financial center of Vice City.
A name with history
Overtown appears on the collaborative map the community has built from the trailers and from leaks. Rockstar has not confirmed it, but the name is not made up: it is one of Miami’s most historic neighborhoods.
The real-world reference
Overtown, northwest of downtown Miami, was the city’s main African American neighborhood from the late 19th century. In the 1940s and 1950s it was called “the Harlem of the South”: its clubs and theaters hosted the great jazz and soul stars who performed in Miami Beach but, because of segregation, could not stay there.
In the 1960s, the construction of the I-95 and I-395 highways cut the neighborhood in two and forced thousands of residents out. Today it is going through redevelopment with tensions similar to those in Little Haiti.
